We went at the end of a very long and busy season and yet the staff were all on top of their game. This place scores #1 in customer service. To me, customer service is the # 1 deal breaker or maker in returning to any resort or adventure vacation. The fishing spots (16 in total) were close to the lodge so no 2-hour trips to get fish!!! No luck with the halibut or cod (only spent half a day) but the 4 of us came back with 150 lbs of salmon. The Guides were pro, the lodge's boat was in "less than prime" shape, but the contractor boats were top notch. The float plane trip in is less than 20 minutes and almost that alone was worth the trip. You don't need to bring much, rain and fishing gear is provided, you will need to BYOB. All seen from the boats while fishing or they can arrange a trip for viewing. The wildlife is breathtaking, whales, porpoise, sea lions, otters, eagles, bears, and wolves. The lodge and grounds are immaculate and everywhere has an incredible view. Shared bathrooms, smaller rooms, limited storage space, pack light, very good beds. The accommodations are great-on the fishing lodge scale in a wilderness setting. They take pride in everything they do, ask them about their charity work, true humanitarians! The cooks are the "Stars" of the Lodge, and characters worth getting to know. Both spoon and fly fisherman have been sharing some limited success until we get more rain to push these fish further up into the system. To me, customer service is the # 1 deal breaker or maker in returning to any resort or adventure vacation. There will be some early Chinook opportunities in the lower staging pools of the Conuma River, at first light and in the late afternoons. Keep updated on current Albacore tuna school locations through our Instagram and Facebook pages. With all the migratory Coho and pink salmon heading by, bottom fish will come out of the deeper water to feed on the smaller salmon and bait fish. When targeting bottom fish try to utilize the high slack through the first two hours of the ebb, look for areas with structure where the bottom is inconstant in depths with rock and gravel up-cropping. 4 to 6 inch spoons (Luhr Jensen live image and cop car), 5 to 6 inch 602 and 158 Tomic plugs, flasher with glow needlefish hootchies, and flasher and anchovy are all working well both on the inside and on the outside. Early mornings and then again in the late afternoon until early evening are the most opportunistic times for inside fishing. The local Conuma fish are holding and staging in all the traditional spots Hoiss Point, Strange Island, Beer Can Bay, Camel Rock, Three Bay, and “The Wall” are all producing fish daily. Coho, Chinook, Halibut, Ling cod, and Rockfish are all readily available to those willing to put in the time and effort to target them. As the daylight hours begin to decrease and the smaller more mellow tides of the summer settle in, anglers are enjoying easier and more consistent access to the outside. The fishing and weather remain excellent as we continue to enjoy consistent angling opportunities, both on the inside fishery for local mature Conuma, Gold, and Berman River Chinook, as well as on the outside remaining steady and consistent for all runs of salmon and all species of bottom fish.
